Oklahoma 3A Cross Country Final Rankings 2017: Adair's Girls Shock the Poll; Mt. St. Mary Edges Marietta

If the 3A pollsters of October 14th, 2017 wanted a quiet November, they picked the wrong year. Both polls had Marietta No. 1. Neither Marietta team won. The girls’ title went to the poll’s No. 3, the boys’ title to the poll’s No. 2 — and the boys’ race was decided by nine points. Polls qualify nobody; Adair and Mt. St. Mary qualified themselves.
Girls’ poll, October 14th: Marietta, Sequoyah Tahlequah, Adair, Little Axe, Lexington. State: Adair won the title, with Sequoyah Tahlequah second at 102. The poll’s No. 3 took the crown while the poll’s No. 1 watched — the biggest girls’ upset in the 2017 archive.
Boys’ poll, October 14th: Marietta, Mt. St. Mary, Sequoyah Tahlequah, Holland Hall, Marlow. State: Mt. St. Mary 36, Marietta 45. Nine points. The poll’s No. 2 edged the poll’s No. 1 in a genuine duel — the closest boys’ finish of 2017.
Marietta’s Mandy Sykora won the girls’ individual title; Holland Hall’s Clinton Baird won the boys’ crown.
The 3A polls had Marietta on top of both sides — and the state meet disagreed on both sides. October ballots, November legs.
