Oklahoma 3A Cross Country Final Rankings 2022: Regent Prep’s Twin Titles and a Freshman Sensation

The final 2022 3A poll, posted October 10th, had the girls nailed and the boys half-right — which was enough to miss the biggest story of the class. Girls’ poll: Regent Prep No. 1, and Regent Prep won state with 56 — their third straight title. Boys’ poll: Chisholm No. 1. The champions: Regent Prep, with 88 points. A sweep the poll didn’t see coming, led by a freshman nobody saw coming faster.
Start with the girls, because three-peats deserve reverence. Regent Prep 56, champions again — all five scorers in the top 25, the kind of pack running that makes coaches weep and opponents check the transfer portal. Adair was No. 2 in the poll, Kiefer No. 3, Bethel No. 4, Alva No. 5. The poll had this one cold. Sometimes the dynasty is just the dynasty.
The boys are where it gets good. The poll said Chisholm, then Regent Prep, then Rejoice Christian. The state meet said Regent Prep 88 — the first boys’ team title in school history. And the individual title? Freshman Jeramiah Tangren of Regent Prep, in 16:15.09. A freshman. Winning the 3A boys’ state race and leading his school to its first-ever boys’ crown in the same afternoon. If you’re a voter who had Regent Prep No. 2, you don’t get to claim you saw this — you had them second, and second doesn’t win freshman-led history.
The girls’ individual title went to Oklahoma Christian’s Kat Bosley in 12:11.42 — another reminder that the poll ranks teams and the individual race keeps its own counsel.
The rest of the boys’ poll: Heritage Hall, Holland Hall, Jones, Lindsay, Sequoyah Tahlequah, Crossings Christian, Keys-Parkhill. Girls: Hennessey, Prague, Washington, Sequoyah Tahlequah, Heritage Hall.
2022 3A: the Regent Prep girls made it three in a row as ordered, the Regent Prep boys made history as underdogs, and a freshman announced himself to the entire state. The poll got the dynasty right and the fairytale wrong. Fair enough — fairytales are hard to rank.
